CURRICULUM ENRICHMENT PROJECTS

DOWNLOAD A GROUP REPORT

An example of a Chemistry related project involves the preparation of Aspirin and its conversion to tablet form. In the picture, the students are refluxing the reaction mixture in the preparation of aspirin.

From l-r Gareth Young, Helen Lydon, Neil Sheehan

The report is in PDF format which means it can be read and printed out if you have an Adobe Acrobat reader on your computer. If you haven't, it can often be found on many of the CD ROMS which come with monthly computer magazines. It can be downloaded from the Adobe website.

Students work in small groups to plan, carry out and evaluate a project. At the end of each project they report their findings by compiling a written report and by giving a live presentation to other students involved in the project.

Apart from the Aspirin synthesis, recent projects have included; AROMATHERAPY, SMOKING AND HEALTH, COMPOSITE MATERIALS, FLUID FLOW, ACCESS FOR THE DISABLED.

Planning, teamwork, practical, presentational and Information Technology skills are all necessary for a successful outcome.

WARNING: The file is several megabytes long so don't download it at a busy or expensive time.
