Leyland St Ambrose Scout Group was founded in 1952 and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2002. A special badge (right) was produced for the occasion. The Group badge (above) reflects the link with our sponsor church.

PACK HOLIDAY - EASTER 2004

At the start of the school Easter break, a party of twenty four cubs and six leaders enjoyed another successful Pack Holiday at Silverhelme campsite. Highlight of the stay was a hike to Arnside Knott during which the boys were invited to hold new-born lambs at Tower Farm. On Saturday morning, the cubs enjoyed a nature ramble around the campsite and in the evening we were joined by members of the Scout Troop for campfire songs.

GENEROUS DONATION FROM
MASONIC COMMUNITY FUND

On 4th November 2002, William Huck (Assistant Provincial Grand Master) presented a cheque for 1000 pounds to the Group to help cover some of the costs of the HQ refurbishment. The Masonic West Lancashire Community Fund exists for the purpose of supporting local charities and deserving causes and is sustained by contributions from Freemasons throughout the Masonic Province of West Lancashire. The Group is most grateful for this generous gesture.

GRANT FROM ALCOA

The Group has just received a grant from the ALCOA FOUNDATION on behalf of ALCOA, the American parent of Alcoa Lingotes. Under the initiative and guidance of Group Treasurer David Hambley, the Group made a bid for funds to help with the refurbishment of the Headquarters. The Group is much indebted to David for all his efforts and to Mr Paul Humphreys of ALCOA who was instrumental in getting us the grant.

On Monday 17th December, Mr Humphreys attended the final Scout Troop Meeting of 2001 and presented a cheque to Group Scout Leader Roy Squire.

Roy Squire (Group Scout Leader) said that Leyland St Ambrose Scout Group was extremely pleased to receive the grant of 5500 dollars from the Alcoa Foundation. It was intended that the money would be spent on improving the kitchen which had suffered water damage arising from vandalism to the roof. The roof would be insulated and a new ceiling put in. There would be a new fire door, new light fittings and the walls would be re-tiled as well as new cabinets being fitted. The absence of kitchen facilities had affected our fund raising opportunities over the last few years. The refurbishment using the generous grant from ALCOA will allow us to use the Headquarters again for Coffee Mornings and similar events which can then raise further funds for the Group.
