DOWNLOADING MATERIAL

To download any of the notes or exercises, click (or double-click) on the filename. A warning window - see example to the right - may appear with some versions of Windows. If it does, ensure that the two options are selected as shown, then press OK. The file should then load into the correct program. You can then save it on your own computer and/or print a copy.

Warning: Before you print anything, please check the position of any images. Word files were created with the 'Snap to Grid' option turned off. If the function is active in your Word configuration any images will be slightly offset.

This window may appear when you click on a file

HANDY TIPS

CAPITALS: If the computer automatically makes the first letter of a sentence a capital and you don't wan't it to be so, select Tools /Auto Correct/Auto Correct and untick the Capitalise first letter of sentences box. You can then choose when to have a capital.

HIGHLIGHTING TEXT can be done in a variety of ways.
1. Placing the cursor and dragging over the text.
2. Clicking over the text:- TWO CLICKS = Word: THREE CLICKS = Paragraph
3. Clicking in left margin:- TWO CLICKS = Paragraph: THREE CLICKS = All text

OVERTYPING: Microsoft Word is sometimes set up to overtype. This means that it is difficult to insert text in the middle of a document - anything you type overwrites the text in front. If this happens, it can be turned off by selecting Tools/Options then selecting the Edit tab. Untick Overtype mode then click OK.

SNAP TO GRID: If, when you print out any of my documents, the pictures are not quite lined up with the text it is because any clipart has 'snapped to the grid'. It can be turned off by selecting Draw on the bottom left hand side of the screen if you have the Draw bar visible. Click on Grid to turn the snapping function on/off.
